Seattle DUI Penalties

In Washington, DUI will be charged as a gross misdemeanor and will have a maximum penalty of one year in jail and fines of up to $5,000.  For DUI charges in Seattle, several factors are used when considering the sentence for a person convicted of this type of crime.  The number of prior DUI convictions, as well as whether or not an individual submits to a blood or breath test at the time of arrest will contribute to the sentence if conviction does occur.

For a first DUI offense with a BAC of less than .15 and no priors within seven years, the mandatory minimum sentences can include:

  • Minimum 1 day in jail or 15 days of electronic home monitoring
  • A minimum fine of approximately $866 plus costs and assessments
  • 90 day driver’s license suspension
  • SR-22 insurance for three years (high risk)
  • Probationary license for 5 years after reinstatement
  • Probation monitoring by the court for up to 5 years
  • Ignition interlock device installed on your car
  • Alcohol evaluation and, if recommended, treatment
  • Attend DUI Victims Panel
